WARM UP YOUR SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AT THE PLAZA
Entertainment07 July 2020
We’ve actually become experts at finding fun things to do with the family when you can’t (aren’t allowed) to get out and about. Baking, books, board games, gardening, a bit of TV, creating, painting, video games… the list goes on.
Here are some ideas to make your school holidays a bit cozier (when the weather is likely to be a bit chilly) to refresh you on all the fun things you can do indoors… and at The Plaza!
Make a fort and curl up with a great book
There’s a bunch of new books out including ones from fav authors David Walliams and Aaron Babley. Pull out the old bedding and duvets, get creative with the furniture and hole up in another world for the day, or until the sun starts peaking through.
Spend a day at The Plaza
Aside from a little retail therapy, when you spend $100 on fashion in one day, you’ll be in to win a gift card from The Plaza. We are also giving away a kid’s craft activity at Customer Service. Throw in a teddy bear picnic and you and your family will be entertained ALL DAY! CLICK HERE to find out all the fun things that are on at The Plaza.
DIY Karaoke
If the kids got a blast out of the Trolls World Tour movie, they can continue the fun at home with a little karaoke session. Set up a mini stage and gather round with some snacks to cheer the singers on. Poppy’s Microphone with preloaded songs makes it easier (you can pick it up from Whitcoulls) to belt out the hits.
Get Creative
Get the creative juices flowing and get building. For budding scientists, there’s a crystal growing kit – it’s glow in the dark, too!
Puzzling
Okay… puzzles are a bit contentious. They’re either cat nip to those who like to “puzzle” away to find the exact piece and relish a 1,500 piece-er OR you’ve had enough fun once the edges are in and don’t give two hoots about the resulting picture (if you even get that far!). A happy medium are these 500 piece Ravensburger puzzles. Good for a few hours, then on to the next fun thing!
Crystal Growing Kit – Glow in the Dark from Acquisitions, Whitcoulls Trolls World Tour: Poppy’s Microphone, The Bad Guys #01: The Bad Guys by Aaron Babley and Slime by David Walliams from Whitcoulls, Ravensburger Puzzles Harmony In The Jungle from Farmers, Michael Jordan Pop! Vinyl from EB Games.
AND…While you’re at The Plaza, you’ll find food and drink to satisfy every taste.
Trend Setting
Today’s top food trends are out in force at The Plaza. There’s Tank’s Glow juice with passionfruit, mango, turmeric, coconut milk and more. Bing House brings Chinese street food to us with their pulled pork and Asian slaw bao burger, and a variety of delicious dim sum and dumplings. Grab Ramen Ippin’s Japanese style fried rice for a trendy takeaway or enjoy their ramen soup or pork and cabbage gyoza…yummy. You’ll also love Shamiana’s aloo gobi – potato and cauliflower – to get your daily cauliflower fix, or their green pea paneer curry for a vegetarian treat and turmeric top up.
Casual Comfort
If comfort food’s more your thing, you’ve come to the right place. Phil and Jo’s does a great eggs benedict for breakfast or lunch, or if mac and cheese is what you’re after, they make it with bacon or broccoli and cauliflower. You can find yourself classic crispy wontons and sweet and sour pork at Red Lantern. And if it’s just time for a toastie? Columbus Coffee’s doorstop sandwich is your perfect ham and cheese choice.
Nostalgic food at its very best.
Chic Sweets
Since sweets never go out of style, here are some of our favourites. Pair Columbus Coffee’s almond and fruit frangipane tart with a salted caramel hot chocolate or a Brazil Ipanema coffee with its sweet flavor and hint of fresh chestnuts. If you’re nuts about chocolate Muffin Break makes a decadent macadamia choc chip muffin and when it’s time for something cold, go for their caramel latte frappe. If you’re a donut fan then you’re in for a treat with Donut Kings range of iced, filled and sprinkled tasty treats.
