WHICH BOOTS WITH WHICH JEANS? OUR TOP TIPS

Denim is a staple in most winter wardrobes and yet sometimes we can get so used to wearing them a certain way that we forget that there are other possibilities (some we may not have even tried!). Take boots for instance, whether over the knee or ankle length, a little bit of know-how can make for a few more jean/boot combinations.

1. Rolled hems with ankle boots

Ankle boots all fit differently. Sometimes they are made to be roomy at the ankle or fit nice and close to the skin. By folding the hem on your denim twice over you alleviate having to squeeze your jean into the boot or vice versa and the overall look has a certain ‘edginess’ to it.

This look works best with a straight or slim-straight styles and if you are wanting to make the look feel dressier overall, go for a black or dark-washed denim.

2. Skinny jeans with ankle boots over top

Skinny jeans are a popular style for winter yet rolling the hem just won’t work as well due to their close fit.  It’s also due to this fact that the best ankle boot to pair with it is slightly slouchier and has a wider opening that can easily accomodate a little more fabric.

There is one exception to the skinny jean/wide opening rule and that is a lace-up ankle boot. A lace-up ankle boot can look great over skinny jeans namely as you have some control over getting the jean easily inside the boot without it looking too scruffy.

3. Skinny jeans with knee-high boots over top

Over the knee boots or knee-high boots are one of the few styles of boot that look great worn over a skinny jean. There is however a catch to pulling-off the look and that is to ensure that the jeans you are wearing are very figure hugging (as opposed to being a ‘little baggy’).

It also helps if the boot is form fitting too but of more importance is that the jean is the true definition of a skinny-leg and hugs the leg to the ankle. This is to help ensure that the boot over-top looks sleek and ‘as one’.

4. Bootcut or kickflare denim with boot underneath

For the most part wearing your boots underneath your jeans is a give-in especially when the jean is a flared or bootcut style.

However, to make this look really pop, consider making a statement with the boot that you choose underneath. Whether that be a bold colour or design or a dramatic pointed toe or toe cap detail. The idea is to make the boot you wear stand out!

5. Skinny or slim leg with a heeled bootie

Another great look to wear with a skinny jean is a heeled bootie. Rather than needing to slide over the jean, the heeled bootie simply covers the foot and leaves just enough room for the jean to finish at the ankle.

Heeled booties are incredibly versatile and can work with styles 1, 2 and 4 too, not to mention looking great with stockings and skirts or just on their own.
